Vigilance can report that Electronic Temperature Instruments has launched a healthy living hygrometer and thermometer.
Humidity plays an important role in our day to day health, but can often be overlooked in the average home and its effects are often underestimated.
Exposure to damp and mouldy environments can cause a variety of health issues. Some people are sensitive to mould. For these people, mould can cause nasal stuffiness, throat irritation, coughing or wheezing, eye irritation, or, in some cases, skin irritation. Mould can also trigger asthma episodes in sensitive individuals who suffer from asthma.
These health issues are often caused by poor ventilation in bathrooms and kitchens. High humidity levels cause mould to grow on ceilings and walls, and to reproduce. Mould requires the % Relative Humidity (rh) to exceed 70 %rh for some time before it starts growing. Scientists have shown that for people to feel comfortable and stay healthy, the %rh should be in the range of 30 to 60 %rh and in the temperature range of 18 to 25 °C.
The new healthy living Therma-Hygrometer simultaneously displays both the humidity and temperature, in addition to indicating and recording the maximum and minimum readings. The unit includes colour-coded zones for ‘dry’, ‘comfort’ and ‘wet’, making it very easy to read.
For a relatively small investment, home owners and tenants can now monitor the environment, reducing the risks of developing health problems in the future.
